Picking Raspberries

Ellie was a big help in picking raspberries.  She got every single one that she could reach.

On an unrelated note:

I am a water snob.

I don't like spring water or tap water, it has to be filtered water.  Or very very cold water from the tap (if I have to).

Ellie is having quiet time right now, sipping her water and watching Gaspard & Lisa.  She called me in because her water was all gone, and I quickly filled it up at the bathroom sink.

10 seconds later, she called out, "Mom, this water is all yucky!"

I have created the next generation of water snobbery.

Cell Phone Picture Round-Up

I was trying to take some good pictures to text to Lynlee's birth mom, and that is harder to do than you would think on a not-well-lit-afternoon-when-you-are-trying-to-hard.  This is the best there was.
Sisterly Love is always exciting to see.
"But Mom, I don't want my picture taken!"

This is one of Lynlee's favorite toys, and I picked it up at DI for about a dollar.
We love to do art, and thanks to Pinterest I can find lots of ideas.  We had a great, messy time making cornstarch paint (2 T cornstarch, 4 T water, food coloring).  It was pretty much all over the kitchen counter and floor, but that is part of the fun.  Then we headed outside to paint.

Ellie was super excited about pank-ing, and Lynlee loved running up and down the driveway.

My favorite part was when E started doing hand and footprints.

Both girls are getting braver at the park.  We love Wines Park because this little piece of equipment is in the shade.  It is perfect!  Lynlee climbed up to the big slide for the first time, and Ellie loved experimenting with coming down headfirst.

Lynlee is so cute when she wakes up.  She will call, "Mommy!  Daddy!  Ap up {wake up}!"
Lunch at Paradise Bakery is always a treat with Daddy and some of our favorite people.
Lynlee loves to tease Kylene.  L will give everyone else kisses and then lean in to give Ky one, only to pull her head away at the last minute.  And laugh.

L did like walking with Ky, though, and did give her a kiss at the very end.
Lynlee loves stuffed pups, and is very curious about real pups, but they scare her.  She has been doing so much better the last month, until we petted a big dog on our walk last Monday (bigger than Ellie) and the dog gave Lynnie a huge kiss.  Lynnie didn't like that at all (who can blame her?) and is back to her nervousness.  She really wanted to pet Macy like Ellie was doing, but couldn't quite do it.

And here is an unintentional ad.  Anyone need some property?

Curls, Presents, & the Hot Tub

Those curls.  Those gorgeous curls!

While cleaning out his room, Nick found lots of treasures that he was willing to share with the girls.  Lulu loves Nick, and asked him to give her milk.  That is high praise!

The next day as we were playing with the art kit they brought, Ellie told me, "I have a buh-dea {idea}.  Nick and Hailey and Mom-Julie can bring me presents ebery day!"
Lynlee was not sure about the hot tub at first, but she warmed up to it.  Tammy was a big help!

Ellie was super excited, but thought the water was too hot, so she was sad for a minute as her legs got acclimated.  Her moods change so quickly, and it is fun to watch them!

Portraits by Ellie

Ellie is turning into quite the photographer.  She loves to take pictures with my phone.  Here are some of her latest and greatest shots.

Waiting & Eating

Sometimes it is hard to wait for Daddy to come home!  I knew Ellie was on the edge of sleep and I tried everything I could think of to keep her awake, but to no avail.  She ate her raisins and then told me she would wait for Daddy before she ate her macaroni and cheese.  And then she put her head on the table and fell asleep at 5:33 p.m.   The problem with this is that I cannot wake her up, and once she does wake up she will be up forever.  Good thing we love hanging out with her!

***update:  Greg got home about 6:30 and picked her up off the couch, but could not get her to wake up either.  We decided to put her in her bed and see what happened.  She wandered back out at 8:17.  We got her back in bed around 11:30, but she didn't fall asleep until after 1 (with me laying on the floor by her--not the most comfortable sleep for me!  I woke up and wandered back to my bed around 2).

Ellie is such a picky eater, and Lynlee is such a good one!  Tonight Ellie only ate raisins, and Lynnie ate mac & cheese, celery, chicken, cheese, grapes, part of a croissant, milk, and water.

Love's Adopted Child

At the FSA conference last week, one presenter shared this poem that really touched me.  I finally remembered to google it, and want to share it.

I love the concepts shared in it, and especially love that we have 2 open adoptions, and our girls know their birth parents.  I love that (like today) Ellie will be talking about Tayler and want to tell her something, and I can text her.  I love that Lynlee looks at M's picture on her wall every time we change her diaper and she says her name and blows her kisses.

Love's Adopted Child

Once there were two women who never knew each other.
One you do not remember, the other you call mother.

Two different lives, shaped to make your one...
One became your guiding star, the other became your sun.

The first gave you life and the second taught you to live it.
The first gave you a need for love, and the second was there to give it.

One gave you a nationality, the other gave you a name.
One gave you a seed of talent, the other gave you an aim.

One gave you emotions, the other calmed your fears.
One saw your first sweet smile, the other dried your tears.

One gave you up - that's all she could do.
The other prayed for a child and God led her straight to you.

And now you ask me, through your fears,
the age old question unanswered throughout the years.

Heredity or environment,
which are you the product of?

Neither, my darling, neither.
Just two different kinds of love.

Cute Girls

Our girls are awesome!  I am constantly amazed at how smart and good and fun they are.  I have been thinking of our birth moms all day today, and thinking about how blessed we are to share these girls with them.

We were playing in Ellie's room yesterday morning, and Ellie wanted all of her blankets (that are normally stacked on this shelf) on her bed.  Lynlee, the inveterate climber, shimmied right up.  She was so proud of herself--and rightfully so!

When Greg snuggles Ellie at night, she likes to bring her pillow out so she can be "comfy cozy."  A couple of days ago, Lynlee started saying "buh ba" over and over.  I started guessing words --bubble? band-aid? -- before realizing she was saying pillow.  Ever since, Lynnie has wanted her pillow at night when she drinks her last cup of milk, and she has been sleeping with her pillow in her bed.

First thing this morning, both girls had a snuggle on the couch with their pillows.
Camp (or Grandma Camp to the rest of us) came over tonight to bring Ellie her birthday presents.  Grandma came to the party last week, but tried to follow my no presents rule at the party.  Ellie was in heaven having more presents to open, and I thought the chefs hat and apron was the cutest thing I have ever seen.

After taking a few pictures of Ellie, Lynnie said, "Lynlee" and wanted her own picture taken.  Now that's an attitude I will take all day every day!

New Scooter and Cousin Time

We went for a walk the other day to deliver Davis' thank you note.  Ellie wanted to ride her scooter, and she did great going down the hill.  Sometimes she would tell me her leg got tired, but then she would switch legs and do great.

Lynnie Lu was a good walker as well.  She loves to stop and pick up rocks and flowers, and it is a big deal when we can find an ant or another bug.  I love her innocence, and get excited at the little things with her!
On our way home, our neighbor Chris and her daughter Kenadie came out with a scooter for us!  Kena has outgrown it, and Chris said she could tell we were approaching the days when 2 scooters would come in handy.  What an awesome neighbor!  Ellie loved riding her new scooter home.
Last night after grocery shopping, we stopped by Grandpa & Grandma's house to see their new deck.  They were camping with Todd & Rachel, but Tammy had Andrew over to spend the night.  We love playing with Andrew!

 Lynlee loves to climb!

Ellie is so excited to be starting preschool this fall with our neighbor and her friend Hope's mommy.  As an added bonus, Miss Traci is doing gymnastics as part of Leapz and Boundz Preschool! Watching gymnastics in the Olympics has been extra fun because Ellie knows she will get to do that soon.

One of the fun parts for me was shopping for her new gymnastics attire.  Ellie had to model it for Hailey, and Hailey jumped right in as her first coach.
