March 21 - 28

We have been trying to teach the girls delayed gratification a little more deliberately, having them earn almost anything they want, outside of food and clothes and things like that.  Every time we walked past the Moana movies at Costco, we talked about how they could work on earning one.  Until, finally, I just bought it for them as a treat.  Greg was in his last pushes of basketball season and I was tired of entertaining them every night by myself.  We made the Moana on the right by following a pattern found online, and Lynlee designed the Moana on the left by herself.

Posing for Lynlee one day after school.

Ellie and Lynnie were really excited to invite over their friends, who are also sisters, to a late over.  They made signs and spent at least an hour setting up the family room.

*my favorite part:  Little Girls Only*

They wanted to watch a movie right away (Moana, if I remember correctly).

Ellie had set up everyone with a sleeping/relaxing station as well as a sitting/reading station.  Rachel came later and I didn't get any pictures of her...  It was a fun night!

Sometimes basketball season is almost over and it feels like it has been going on forever.  So to distract yourselves, you go to the aquarium.  And you are lucky enough to see the penguins being fed.

The obligatory whale picture -- and miraculously, no one else is in the picture with us!

We always hit our favorite spots and then spend the rest of the time playing on the indoor playground.  Ellie needed a little snack.

Lynlee showed off a great pose.

And Cece was pouting for some reason, but I can't remember why.

It was a rainy day!

The big girls used their latest earnings to purchase these hatchable penguins.  The egg part was the most exciting.  The "growing penguin" was underwhelming.

Greg had a great time reading this book with a repetitive phrase (jump frog, jump) during Cece's parent-teacher conference.

Cece crashed hard on the way home. That time of day just means she will always fall asleep in the car.  It's awesome!

When Lynlee got home from school, she was very excited that her doll was finally ready.

At Let's Play Music, Lynlee got to be Chief Do Is Home, and sing Do for her class.  She picked the correct pitch right out the air and did a great job.

March 17 - 20

. : breaking in the new couch with a family movie night : .

No night is complete without some funny selfies next to a sleeping Cece.

. : waiting for daddy so we can start doing yard work : .

The girls jumped right in and helped pretty well for about half an hour before they drifted away to play.

We even put our neighbor to work.

After a day spent outside, we got cleaned up and headed to the girls' violin recital.  Lynlee played the first 3 songs and Ellie played 5.

Albert & Kanisha came to watch, and afterwards we headed to Cafe Rio for a quick bite. Except the line was super long, and poor Cece was sad about waiting... We were trying to hurry because Ellie was going to a play that night with Rachel and Hannah and the rest of the Tophams.  We ended up getting Ellie to the school with about one minute to spare, and then the Tophams brought her home.

Kanisha brought Lynlee this beautiful rose.

Cece wasn't feeling well, but we were going to power through and go to church anyway...until the vomit happened.  I quickly found a substitute and we had church at home.  Well, if you can call it church when you watch "church movies" like the Living Scriptures and Once There Was A Beehive.

Cece had recovered enough by the afternoon that we braved going to Grandma's monthly dinner.  And we delivered our couches to Mom's garage, where she will store them until Lyssa and Gordon move into their apartment.  It was nice to get them out of our family room, where we had wall to wall couches.

Adam and Lauren prepared a delicious Irish dinner, complete with corned beef that Adam had aged and smoked and brined (or whatever it is you do) all by himself.  Did I mention delicious? It was amazing.

The girls are experts at getting Addie to laugh at them.

Ellie organized a Sister Spa Day that was highly successful -- full of giggles and picture-worthy moments.
Cece was not a fan of the cucumbers, and wanted no part of that idea.

March 12 - 16

Ellie made Grandma Camp a thank you card with a violin on the front.

It was party time for Grandma Spencer's birthday!  These little cousins are so much fun to watch together.  They play and giggle and have a great time.  They bumped down the stairs over and over again, with epic laughter.

Poor Andrew is the oldest of this group and the only boy.  Sometimes he still manages to have fun.

Happy birthday, Grandma!

We had an exciting afternoon!  With Money Mailer, sometimes Greg does some trading with companies for advertising space.  He had been building up some trade with a furniture store in Provo.  We had gone window shopping a few times, and even tried to order a furniture set a month or so ago, but the dealer couldn't get in the one we wanted.  Then they found out the furniture store was going out of business, so it was "use it or lose it."  Greg and Paul went to the store and Greg found this sectional tucked in a corner of the basement.  It had been a floor model, so there are a few dings, but it met our major criteria:  dark color, smooth (cleanable) surface, oversized seating, multiple recliners.  He did great!

The new sectional is not the highest quality, and will not last us 15 years like our old set, but it is great for now.  It fits the room awesome and makes our family room feel much bigger.  Plus, our old couch found a home with Lyssa and her soon-to-be husband, and the loveseat found a home with a refugee family.

Lynlee helped Cece ride on L's bike.

Drawing an elaborate picture on Cece's magnadoodle.

Lynlee has not had any homework all year besides reading and Imagine Learning.  Except for now, when Mrs Holmgren sent home a packet with worksheets to practice the numbers 11 - 20.  She gave us something like 3 weeks to complete it, and of course we did it all in 3 days.  With lots of grumbling and tears because it was just. so. hard!  Popcorn sometimes made it easier...

I had been texting {M} for about a month, setting up a chance to see her and her family as they came through town on their way to Las Vegas.  I know that traveling with small children is tricky and sometimes schedules can change at the last minute, so I didn't tell my girls that we were going to see {M} until about an hour before, when {M} was driving through Ogden and coming steadily south.  We love {M}, her husband, and her two children.  They are awesome and it is a treat to see them in person!  We stay connected via Facebook and texting, but nothing beats a visit.  We had an amazing dinner, full of conversation and catching up.  Plus, an epic Lynlee fit.

Lynlee was soooo excited to see {M} and meet her baby sister.  We last saw them when we went to Idaho for Lynlee's 5th birthday present, and {M} was pregnant at the time.  When we got to The Pizza Factory, we beat them by a few minutes. We got a table and Lynlee was bouncing in her seat, she was so excited. When they came in, Lynlee got shy and just sat back to kind of observe what was going on.  Ellie happily took over and entertained Lynnie's brother and sister.

After a few minutes, {M}'s husband, was teasing Lynlee and scooted over to give her a hug.  Lynlee laughingly fell backwards, right on top of Cece, and burst into tears.  We all thought she got hurt, but it was one of the times she just gets crying so hard that she cannot tell me what is going on.  {M} and her husband felt terrible, but it gave us a chance to talk a little bit (over the crying!) about Lynlee's anxious and nervous responses to situations.  {M} said she can be just like that, where her reactions to things sometimes seem all out of proportion to the event.  She shared some coping strategies she uses that I am excited to try out with Lynnie.

After about 10 minutes, I took Lynnie to the bathroom to try and remove her from the situation and see if that would help.  I finally got her calmed down enough to talk to me.  She wasn't upset about the almost hug or falling on Cece.  It was that when she fell backwards, her tooth (that had been hanging on by a thread for days) came loose and she swallowed it.  She was so upset that the Tooth Fairy would not be able to come because her tooth was gone.

After I was able to assuage her fears that the Tooth Fairy could still come without a tooth, we rejoined dinner and had a lovely time.  When it was time to go, we headed outside to the patio area and ended up chatting for at least another hour.  The kids ran around and played, and it was just fun.  We took lots of pictures, and I'm already looking forward to the next time we can get together!

After we got home, Lynlee and Ellie put together a nice note for the Tooth Fairy explaining the situation.

Dear thooth fairy I swolled
my thooth :( Lynlee lost her
thooth her thooth on acdent :(
you HAVE to give me
YOU CAN!!!!!!!

And, the Tooth Fairy came!

And wrote Lynlee a note back:

Dear Lynlee,
You are such
a good girl!
Sorry you swallowed
your tooth.  Enjoy
your dollar :)

After that exciting morning, we barely got Cece on her bus on time.
